From the east end

Looking down the shoeline from the Lighthouse

Click the picture so it can be actually read.
This is a scanned copy and not too good. Better then nothing though.

I know someone who checked the ice out front of Sand Bay and found only 2 inches of ice. Wear a life vest if you want to cross. It makes it easier for your loved ones to find you in the spring.

I was surprised to see this huge ship so close to the shoreline. Mike's photo made me think of posting this pic. Curt said the ships lay up like this to avoid inclimate weather conditions.

This is our little friend we go to see every year. For the last four years we go to the same place and call her name and she comes running out of the woods and gets treats. We thought we killed her last year when a friend gave her the lime from her drink but all was well next time. Eats out of our hands and tries to attack if you walk away from her. Interesting.

This is the James L. Kuber, now a barge. It was formerly the steamship Reserve originally having a length of 647 feet. In 1988 it was lengthened to around 767 feet. In 2007 it was converted to a self unloading barge and renamed by KK Integrated Logistics of Menominee, MI.

Brent and friends remove the harbor buoys from the two inches of ice. The ice was no match for the massive aluminum icebreaker with its 1960s Johnson engine and the able bodied crew.

This was the 2nd to last ferry trip. 14 degrees in the am in Cheboygan. The boat rammed the ice cover several times to break enough room for the 180 degree turn.
