A rare breed of Goldenrod that Mike White showed me.

This is the ditch on the east side of the road. After weeks of rain, note the non-existent run-off. If no ditches had been trenched, the water in this area would have gently run across the road over a distance of a 1000' or so, onto a dozen pieces of property. As it is now, the ditches funnel the water onto two private properties with no outlet. What great engineering. What a waste of tax dollars.

This puddle is overflow from the ditch, running west to east.

Scientists have figured out how they stay on top of the water. What they can't fully understand is how they can zip around like they do. How do they get the traction needed to push themselves around? North Shore pond on Bois Blanc.
