There is a clearing in section 13, Lot 5 that I am told was Joe Ekey's place. Records show that Joe got a land patent to Lot 7 in Section 13. That would be just East of the Bible place. He signed in 1898. Clara Leslie got a land patent for Lots 4 & 5 in section 13 in 1901. I suppose Joe bought from Clara after 1901.

Here is a picture of Joe's cook stove. It was made by the WEHRLE company in Newark Ohio. It was a huge factory that turned out 800 to 900 stoves per day on average. The unusual thing about this stove is that it is deeper then it is wide. The container for hot water is in the back behind where the chimney exits.

Interesting bit of history, Mike.. Is this place on the lake side east? Or back in the woods more..

We went to the beginning of the Garfield Township museum and they had a huge woodburner there.. The manufacturer escapes me right now.. An interesting part was the safe they had.. Dad says it was at the farm for a while.. Every elected commissioner got to take it home with them to keep documents safe.. Cool

Go to the cross at the end of Bible Rd. and turn left, west, and go along the shore for about 3/4 mile, then turn inland and go for a few hundred yards. Bring footware so you can wade water. That is one of the easier ways. This, at least, gives you an idea of what part of the island Joe's place was at.

Albers know quite a bit about him. I am assuming by saying he was probably around in the 1920's. Lets say the house went down in the 30's. That would mean the stove sat out for around 70 or 80 years. His bed frame is there too.
