What's the story on the ice? Is it still solid? Is there enough snow to ride once I get to the Island? I'd like to cross tonight.

Island got great snow last night, maybe 10-12 inches. Powder!!!!!!

It's Friday the 13. I went out on the ice and didn't fall in. As a matter of fact, a truck crossed yesterday again.

I plan to go tomarrow to town, for groceries, before it starts "the big thaw".

I went over on sat the 14th in the morning and came back in the afternoon and the crossing was great. The sun was bright and it made the ride relaxing and joyable. And it wasen't cold. The roads were mostly bare on the island. I had my polaris ranger so it didn't matter to me.

I just checked the sat pictures of the straits. I can faintly see the Bois Blanc Island tree line. The reason why is because all the snow has melted off the ice and it is darker, except where the snowmobiles made their trail. The lighter patches were where the rough ice was. The tree line comes out from Vanvoorhees and skirts around the Western edge of one of those formerly rough areas.

I downloaded the picture, cropped it, sharpened it, etc.

I did see a plane setting on the ice, but didn't take a picture. It's not that uncommon. The ice was getting just right for doing a landing.

Kompsi used to do that quite a bit.

Are the snowmobilers still crossing the channel? I heard the ice breakers were in the main shipping channel last Sunday. How does that effect the stability of the ice in the area?
