How's the mosquitoes on the island? They are just awful down here. You can't even go outside during the day. We also had 6-8 inches of rain a couple of weeks ago, so I'm hoping it's just in our area.

The rains here have refilled the low areas with water. Right now the mosquitoes are minimal, but the ponds my breed a new batch before it gets REALLY cold.

Was this summer cooler than other summers? That may be the reason the mosquitoes were maybe hibernating. I know when it was hot here they were horrible but after it cooled they have disappeared. And boy is it COLD today..............BURR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No mosquitoes =no malaria. Not a single BBI malaia outbreak all year? How boring is that?

This is the mosquitoe's own country. They were not attacking the people invaders as much because there were less invaders to bother them.

If there weren't mosquitoes, the birds and bats would would have to eat something else. Wonder why BBI has so many bats?

As far as malaria prevention, the best preventative is quinine... which is an ingredient in tonic water (it is called tonic water because it is thought to prevent malaria and other tropical maladies). Because of its taste, it is often mixed with gin to make it more palatable.

All I can tell you is that I am malaria free!
