Here in Ohio, well, more so in Ashtabula, it is now deer season for bow and turkey season for shotguns. Has anyone up there gotten anything yet this year?
I am waiting to use my bow until next year...hoping to get a crossbow, too! Hoping to get a bigger buck this year for more meat! I got a 10-point last December! _________________ --Megs |

The return boat on Saturday had a couple of pickups carrying some deer hunting trophies! I'm not a hunter, but they looked pretty good to me. |

O really? That's pretty cool!! When we were up there in August, the turkey looked pretty good to me ha! There are tons out this time of year...more than the Spring time. I'd like to hunt up there though! _________________ --Megs |

Out around your granny's childhood home are lots of rubs and scrapes. Clear that spot and set up camp! You have 12 days to get ready for rifle season. _________________ mwhite@wildblue.net

But I don't have that....I have my Grandpa's old shotgun! So, technically speaking, that is my land sort of....so I don't need a tag or anything then, right! HA! I would LOVE to head up there to hunt. I have my own tent and I have my dog to help me hunt...one day! You better get a good buck up by Gram's place and make her proud!
When I got my deer last year, she said congrats but don't bring it home--she doesn't want to clean out a deer ever again she said!
Is it Summer yet so we can head up there again?! _________________ --Megs |

I'm going up Friday to catch the 7:00pm boat and coming back to Port Huron on Wed. May go back up that Friday if Nathan can go up and then back again some time during Thanksgiving .... _________________ 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' I want to announce that my son, Mike II, got his first deer this opening morning. It was doubly sweet because I got one too, not more then 10 minutes before him. This is a super rare thing to happen. We helped haul each others deer out. I am savoring the time together in the woods. _________________ mwhite@wildblue.net

Your correct. He works at the tavern and was there when you were.
Any other lucky hunters out there? _________________ mwhite@wildblue.net

I was hoping you could give more updates Mike or Clover.
Did my uncle Ray and Randy get anything? |

Congrats to the Mikes! It's hard to beat family time in the woods. My daughters went with me on opener of trout season and squealed with delight when I pulled a little Brown out of the creek. _________________ Come spend some time at our place...

Troy, the last time I saw them Randy got a spike and a 5 pointe, Uncle Ray hasn't got one yet. Congrats both Mikes, you are right it doesn't happen that Dad and son get a deer on the same day on the Island... _________________ 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' Why stop at 6. he should just do all the hunting and the locals can buy from him _________________ There are 350 varieties of shark, not counting loan and pool. |

I will let him know.
Actually I think he normally keeps it legal even if he doesn't have to. Last year, I think uncle Ray gave him his buck tag because he got two does and Randy got two bucks or something like that.
Anyway, thanks for the report. |

I once saw a deer that Rick shot that was sooo big he should have put two of his tags on it! It was twice the size of the other deer hanging with it. _________________ mwhite@wildblue.net

Speaking of 2nd tags.
I had a regular tag and used it. Can I get a 2nd tag? I know that it was done in the past, but I'm not sure now. _________________ mwhite@wildblue.net

From what I understand no. You have to buy the combo or a single and if you bought the single you can't get the other. But I would go down to Hawks and ask. _________________ 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. K. Chesterton

If I remeber correctly, Rick's buck was so big it came out on two trucks. Unfortunately it was so tough he's probably still trying to eat it. What was that thing, 25 years old? _________________ There are 350 varieties of shark, not counting loan and pool. |
