How is the weather these days on Boblo? It was getting cool when we left the end of September.

The island is not deserted. And the weather is great. Winds today about ten miles an hour, several brief moments of light snow, but who cares? We are among the lucky ones, We spend the winter here. It's spectacular. Florida? Never! Too much humidity and all that goes with it! Had you been here 200 years ago in many respects it's virtually the same. No commuting, crowds, insane drivers and when you wish to take advantage of an event that can only take place in an urban environment take off, participate and COME HOME!!!

Last weekend was rough. 40+mph winds kept Curt from running on Friday night and Saturday morning. We waited it out overnight in Cheboygan through the intermittent rain, until we could get over. It was a quick trip, wind still blowing hard the next day but starting to settle down as the cold front came in. Power outages, trees down and snapped power lines here and there... a harbinger of things to come this winter.

Lani got stranded in Cheboygan when Curt decided to not run. I was surprized that our power at Sand Bay stayed on. The hardwoods near here was all glowing yellow from the yellow leaves the day before, but after the wind storm, the trees were bare.

So, everything is right on schedule. It looks just like it is supposed to at this time of year. I turned on my furnace Nov. 1 for the winter season.

I hear that Florida can give you crotch rot from all the heat and humidity. If that is the case, I'm glad to be here. I also hear that if you really want to see big wind storms, go to Florida for the hurricanes.

Just bought a 4 1/2 inch Nils hand powered ice auger, so that when I go out on the ice it will be easier to check the thickness. I may later attach an electric drill to it. I wonder how many people have fun doing that kind of thing in Florida?

Shelby I want you to know I spent almost 8 years on the island in the winter time. I will admit it was beautiful and serene but the older I got the more the ole arthritis visited me so that is why I come to Florida for the winter. The humidity was up when we first got down here but now it has calmed down and today there is a nice breeze and the same sunshine we manage to see every day. Also my joints feel so much better now that I'm here. As for activity and I can come and go as I want, then COME HOME too.

Mike sorry to hear Lani had to stay in Cheboygan overnight recently. Dave told me about the boat not running. But at least she probably was able to do more shopping that way or run to the casino. As for the hurricane season I would not want to be here in the middle of them either but they don't have as many by the time we get here. One thing about hurricanes you have plenty of time to evacuate if there is a need.

So you all enjoy your winter on the island and I'll enjoy my winter here doing what I want. Remember I've done my time in the Boblo winters and doing it alone was no fun so I'll pass now and in the future. Florida isn't for everyone but it is for Bob and I.

My previous post was just my way of teasing. I actually like to visit Florida. I wanted to beat you to the punch, because normally at some point during the winter, you tell us how nice and warm you are down in Florida. Tell Bob hi, and both of you have a healthy and warm winter.

P. S. You know Lani too well!
