Do you know why Ed McMahon went broke? He never made the kind of money today’s celebrities make, but Johnny made sure he did very well. Poor old Ed followed the advice of an expert. Money just sitting in a bank account is losing money. You have to put your money to work, or it will run dry. Not just whatever cash you have on hand, but any equity you have must be put to work. He took out equity loans on everything he had worked hard to pay for, and put that money to work in the markets. He believed the expert was on his side.

A woman I know here in Toledo is in a shelter for the holidays. A few years ago, she bought a $90,000 house by putting down a $50,000 deposit from an inheritance. The bank talked her into a variable rate mortgage. After she was “downsized”, she couldn’t keep up with the ever-climbing mortgage payments, so the bank foreclosed. She’s now found out that since the bank doesn’t know who they sold the loan to, title can’t be transferred, so she’s on the hook for the property taxes on a house the bank padlocked her out of.

I have health insurance. My doctor, who drives a new VW bug, doesn’t have hospital privileges. If I go to a hospital, she will be notified, but cannot serve as my doctor. She claims she’s never been sued (which I can’t check on, thanks to the AMA), but her malpractice insurance would almost double in order for her to have hospital privileges.

Now, please read these:

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/29127316/the_great_american_bubble_machine

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/30481512/wall_streets_naked_swindle

No matter what we do on jobs, health care, small business, we’re going to just throw what little money we still have down the drain.

The experts are saying it’s turning around. A full revolution. Back to where we started.

And, Familyman? Please explain how this is socialism?

The only word I have for it is "criminal". And Obama is allowing it to happen.

The market is no different than Vegas, when we invest in it we are gambling. I agree that the government should do a better job regulating to keep the playing field level and if we ever get rid of special interest money that might happen. But people need to think for themselves and make better financial decisions.

The largest U.S. companies own our politicians and together they have sold our country out, but they are not the definition of capitalism. There are a lot of great businesses, small, medium and large, that play by the rules and treat their employees, customers and communities well.

I remember a discussion on this site about Walmart a long time ago. It is still a great example of how people will sell out their communities for a buck just like the politicians.

I would not doubt that our president was bought and paid for by the Clinton's, Kennedy's and whomever else had their hands into it. They wanted him to pass things that they themselves were unable to, could not or did not. You can bet you know why this president just might get what he wants. DAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not over yet..........

Erica,
When the gov owns and operates it's socialism. Why are liberals so afraid to use the word? If this is what you want then say so. For now the gov has to use our money to operate. Soon it will be their money and they will decide who gets what.

While we are complaining about the government get this!! Today I took my last two years of change that I saved to the bank. We spent at least 6 hours rolling about $ 1,200.00 in change.

When I got to my bank they wouldn't accept the rolled change. They said the Federal Reserve will no longer take rolled change. Ok, I said, this is legal United States tender, so what do I do with it? The lady point to the count machine, which by the way has a 5 percent for customer and 10 percent for non-customer fee to use. What a new American rip-off!! It cost me $60.00 to turn in change. Oh, by the way they refused the Canadian coins, so guess what, as of today I no longer will accept Canadian coins from any store. See how they like that!!!!

lighthouse, our credit union accepts rolled up coins (along with those good old canadian coins) with our acct. number on them and if you use the coin counter it costs 2%. Thank Goodness the credit union does not charge all of the fees that banks do. They will rip you off big time!

I think it was one of the credit unions in Cheboygan with a sign out front advertising "Free Popcorn Fridays".

In my day job, I have to spend a lot of time thinking about the costs and benefits of various marketing strategies. And that one just makes me scratch my head. Is there really a person out there who would be swayed toward using a particular credit union because, on one day of the week, there is the chance for free popcorn?

As I write this, I am starting to reconsider my feelings on the matter... Obviously, their strategy must have succeeded on some level, because I'm still talking about it weeks later. And hot, buttery popcorn does sound pretty good right about now... Hey, these people are geniuses! I'm taking all of my savings ($6.53) out of the mattress and depositing it in the free popcorn credit union!!! Yum!

I guess I am wondering why anyone would keep that much change rather than putting in a savings acoount - I know they don't pay much interest but it still is $$$$
I just spend mine Laughing

Answer is simple, if we put it in a jar, we don't spend it. If it's in the bank we do!!! This paid for half of the Disney trip.

May I offer my '2 cents worth' (Oh, that was Bad!)

The United States Coinage Act of 1965 states (in part):

United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes and dues.

31 U.S.C. § 5103.

This statute means that all United States money as identified above are a valid and legal offer of payment for debts when tendered to a creditor in the U.S.

Some businesses in Florida and other states frequented by large numbers of Canadian snowbirds are willing to accept Canadian dollars in discharge of debt, despite Canadian currency not being legal tender in the United States.

My interpretation of this law is that when you walk into a bank - or credit union for that matter - and request that they redeem coin for currency or even to credit the sum to a savings or checking account with their institution, that you are NOT tendering money for a debt. You are simply requesting that they provide the service of converting the coin to paper currency or possibly a credit to your existing accounts, thus the 'legal tender' issue does not apply.

I'm done for now. Just going to sit back and watch. I apologize for driving everyone away Conis. I'll let the opened minded and enlightened take over. Anyway, enough has happened that I can sit back and say "told ya so".
3 putt, hope Santa brings you that job. Now that Bush is gone I'm sure there are plenty of opportunities.
Merry Christmas.

When are you people gonna learn? It is not Obama. It is not Bush. It is not Liberals. It is not Conservatives. It is the whole lame federal government. Arguing back and forth is exactly what our politicians want.

Although most Americans are against war escalation in Afghanistan, here we go with escalation. I am almost ready to throw in the towel. We, the sheeple, have no say in any of it.

Question for ya: How many "war or military" related people do we have in Afghanistan now?

Read this for the answer.

Here's what lost me:

"The highest-paid federal employees are doing best of all on salary increases. Defense Department civilian employees earning $150,000 or more increased from 1,868 in December 2007 to 10,100 in June 2009, the most recent figure available.

When the recession started, the Transportation Department had only one person earning a salary of $170,000 or more. Eighteen months later, 1,690 employees had salaries above $170,000."

Thats under Bush and Obama. We, ladies and gentlemen, are allowing it.

As Familyman rants against Obama and socialism, and others rant against neo-cons, we are taking it up the ....well you know, and it is being shoved upon us from both parties...do not doubt it for a minute.

Here's one more that lost me. Now, I do not know if this is official, but if it is, DO NOT irritate the Federal Apple cart or you may fall into this black hole:

The Latest Edict From the People’s Court

Posted by Lew Rockwell on December 21, 2009 10:06 AM
The Anti-Federalists predicted that a “Supreme” Court would help pave the way towards tyranny. Now the Nine Creeps have agreed with the Dictator that if he or any of his army of highly paid dependents declares a person to be a suspected enemy combatant (i.e., an enemy of the people), anything can be done to him: he can be kidnapped, incarcerated, tortured, disappeared, etc. with no recourse. This edict has been buried by the minion-media. (Thanks to Eric Garris)
