I am mentioning K-5 early because a member of the record breaking K-4 crowd has passed away. If you take a look at the K-4 picture in the album, Chris Gutman, "Guter", is the first person on the left. He was healing from cancer surgery during K-4 but wanted to do all four lakes and he did. His good friend, Dave Smith, told me that Guter loved the paddling and the good time we all had.

Next year's K-5, Twin Lake paddle will be dedicated to Guter. Hope to see more paddlers than ever.

Kayakalakeaday is beginning on the extraordinary May weekend beginning Friday the 13th! Yeah! What a great day to start a life and death adventure!

Last year's group numbered 8. Maybe we will get into double figures this year. Cruising BBI's Liquid Jewels is indeed a treasure chest of beauty.

Join us.

Did you go get your new sticker? New federal tax on canoes and water craft under 10000 feet long. Just mail me your 20 bucks and I'll make sure nobody bothers you...My hats off to the Gutman..

I was thinking about it until I heard your "life and death" description. Hmmm. Maybe you need someone to stay at camp and cook . . .

Doug, here's what the camp cook must prepare for the hungry paddlers.

I remember in the 1960s that my mom would order turtle soup when she would go out to eat. That turtle would make a lot of soup!

I was thinking more in the line of microwaved frozen burritos with On-yums and a nice orange Faygo.

So do I have the job?

Sign me up! I have a tandom, a single and a canoe. Maybe Dan and Polly would like to go. Maybe soup and sandwiches? I'm into multi whole grain and veggies with a little meat, but we could have a variety. Maybe a pot of Venison Chile or chicken veggie noodle? I could premake and we could heat it up on the shore Razz

Hey, Michaelc007.

The more the merrier. Bring anything you want to eat, drink. Enjoy the prettiest lakes on earth for paddling and eating.

We will problably convene at the bar, Hawks, or someones cabin after the day's festivities.

This will be the "Guter" memorial paddle.

Oh, by the way, we will have a T-shirt for ya if you do all 4 lakes.

K-5 is for anyone that can make it.

The Indiana contingent is starting Thursday on L. Mary. What Time B.L.?

Lake Mary has a memorial service on Saturday so we will respect that and not paddle on L. Mary on Saturday.

Friday, we'll convene on Lake Thompson at aprox. 1:00 pm. Bring lunch with you or not.

Saturday, we'll attack Twin Lakes, 11:00 am paddles in the water! That's the biggest trip. Bring sustinance.

Deer Lake trips are dependent on the road/trail conditions. Sunday plans are made on Saturday.

When you are paddling, everyone is considered "retired".

Hope you guys have a great time. I cannot make it this year but am confident that I will one day. (I plan to practice my kayaking a bit this summer so I will be prepared for, hopefully, next year's journey).

Sister Susie and I made it though from Deer Lake to Swedes Bay the other day, but there was an area of road that was flooded. It scared me, and I don't scare easy. Just thought I would warn you about that. You may have to cut the branches back a little if you have a large vehicle. There is one leaning tree that might need cutting down. It was a tight squeeze for my little Isuzu pickup.
