We have settled on a date for Kayakalakeaday six. We will take the 12:30 boat Wednesday, May 9th. We will cruise on one of the lakes that day, do one on Thursday, one on Friday and one on Saturday.

The island inland lakes are beautiful. Come and join us in kayak or canoe.

Hey, Doug and Jeff, it is about time. We ain't gettin' any younger.

I would love to go and will seriously consider it. Just the opportunity to talk politics with you and Jeff and others in this election year is alone enough to persuade me to go! (Actually, of course, the thought of seeing those inland lakes in May is and has for a long time been so very appealing.) I will be thinking about how I can make it work.

Thank you so much for skipping Lake Mary last year during Gary's Memorial Service. I hope you all have a fantastic time on the water this year. To that end...I will be renting out our cottage a few weeks this year, so if you have kayakers that need a place to stay, contact me please.

Hey John: Do you have any more details on Kayakalakeaday 6? When does the day start and end? How do you work the food? Do you camp or does everyone stay at their own cottages? I assume there might be some details on previous posts but thought there might be something new this year. How many hours of kayaking a day do you do (just truing to figure out if I need to get in shape for this thing! I am hoping to attend but need to work out the details.

Hi Doug. I can help some. I wouldn't think it would be to stressful on anyone we seem to take our time enjoy the cruise. The lakes take varying amounts of time. Guessing Mary at 3-4 hrs. Twins 5-7 hrs Thompson 4-5 hrs and Deer 2-3 hrs. I come up with friends from work and we will have 5 at my place, pretty full. We usually go to the bar at least once for lunch and or dinner and bring our own food otherwise. Energy snacks on the lakes. We normally plan the next days launching times on the lake the day before.
Details? nothing to work out. May 9th thru 13th. LOL

Hey Bruce and Doug. Just to add to Bruce's post a bit. Since Bruce usually has the biggest paddling crowd with him, I lean toward doing L. Mary first since Bruce's place is on L. Mary. After that, we plan out our next day on the shore, at the bar, at one of our cabins, etc. I know all would love to see Bruce's place and I love to have people over and I would love to see your place, Doug. Your end of the island is spectacular.

So, bottom line, just bring serious paddling clothes. Last year I paddled Twin Lakes in a continuous Light to heavy rain. Temps in the 40's. I have complete rain gear top to bottom, and was dry and warm the entire trip. It was perhaps my most enjoyable paddle ever...see the pics in the albums.

Shore food was at its best last year. One of Bruce's clan had some salami, crackers, etc. We eat, BS, drink a beer of two, etc. After 11 monthes, 26 days away from the lakes, it is pure ambrosia returning the kayaks into BBI's inland lakes.

Remember, the operating mantra is, "What's said in the boat, stays in the boat."

This sounds delightful....minus the political stuff!

Love that you guys plan on doing this so early in the season...I think the early months after a long winter's hibernation are some of the best times to be had on the island.

86 degrees here...3-21-2012. Man, in seven weeks, there might be bugs on the rock! Hope the water stays high.

JEE: Barring any unforeseen problem, I am planning to attend this year and really looking forward to it. I just hope you have a strong rope in case you have to tow this novice kayaker at various points! (I hope I am kidding but you never know.)

So Piper, are you going to be able to attend? I have a little Tohatsu motor to assist if you or anyone else runs out of energy!

Great Doug. This might be the year we beat the old record of '8' participants. We'll have rope but trust me, you will not have to be towed...me thinks.

I have to check on a couple of possible 'schedule conflicts', but I'm gonna try and be there this year. Political chatter will have to be kept to a minimum though, or I won't be back in subsequent years. I want to enjoy the beauty of the island lakes in springtime, good fellowship, and good beer. Here's hoping I can swing it!! Very Happy

I just stumbled across this thread, is the kayaking open to anyone?

My wife and I are breaking ground on a new home down on the east end in April, it would be nice to meet some of the locals.

Isla Hombre.

I agree with you Piper. I would like to discuss music and our favorite writers on the natural world (I am planning to bring my copies of Walden and Pilgrim at Tinker Creek.

We Hoosiers enjoy peace and quiet as we paddle the lakes. We are all construction workers who enjoy solitude and a oneness with nature. We also enjoy discussing ahhh....... Lets PARTY!

Got me laughing already Lord.

As I was visualizing this collection of kayakers, I thought of our Twin Lakes adventures where we held on to each others craft in the middle of the lake with paddles held high for sails. We'll have to consider a "raft event" if the conditions are right.

So many possiblities.

I hear we will be towing an extra craft just to carry the imbibements?

We probably will not be able to turn water into wine but I am bringing some homemade wine that might make you fall into the water.

And that is another aspect of K-6...wine tasting.

Maybe, it will be moral mushroom time to boot.

The one person on Bois Blanc that really gets serious about hunting mushrooms is Victor Babcock. He's the man to ask if they are out.

The weather has been cool and pretty dry. Not many wildflowers yet. Only a few bugs.
