Mike: Not hedging an arguement here. No doubt islanders would prefer any upgrade over hughs net.
I'm suprised Romney doesn't call it socialism? Government funded infrastructure improvement? Egads? We all forget that it was government funding that brought a modern (then) phone system to BBI and many the rural areas back in the late 70's early 80's.
I only wonder how TDS will make this profitable with limited subscribers and the trend away from wired systems to wireless?
I guess we'll see. _________________ Remember, half the people you know are below average. |

TD,
thanks for your post, now I can start getting what I need for the East End next summer.. My Verizon smart phone works on the porch outside, but no reception inside the house.. _________________ " Luck doesn't just happen, we work for it "

@Steve P: Your metal roof is suppressing the signals. Same problem with me. An outdoor antenna and repeater/amp will bring it inside.
Keep in mind the wilson sleek amplifier is a cradle for a modem or cell phone but its "uncradled range" is only 12-18" away. There are other repeater/amps that are better designed for indoor cell use ONLY.
The device you showed me which connects to wired phone, may do the job connected to a high gain outdoor antenna like the wilson trucker. If the stub antenna is removable, all you would then need is an adapter.
I'd have to look at it to figure out what adapter is needed. _________________ Remember, half the people you know are below average. |

Contractor told me that they were hoping to begin trenching and installing the fiber optic cable September 17. Have they finished? Have they started?
Any update? |

Go to the first page of this thread and read the announcement posted Oct 3.
They are installing the empty orange plastic tubes about 2 to 3 feet deep in the roads. They are still at that. later, they will "blow in" the fiber optic lines from phone pedestal to phone pedestal. _________________ mwhite@wildblue.net

I saw equipment and orange tubing headed East. I do not know how far they have gotten east or west. I did see that there is now a crew going to the houses and putting in a smaller diameter orange tube to the buildings.
I also saw that they have gone down the bluff on the road to Liedels, then turned towards Sand Bay [east], and gone beyond Maynards place [formerly Quist's].
If I recall correctly, they intend to go down Rocky [Orange Blvd.] Road. _________________ mwhite@wildblue.net

From what I remember, the main trunkline is to go up RRoad and reconnect the main road at Snow Beach. I assume they would follow the powerline since thats where existing pedistals are. _________________ Remember, half the people you know are below average. |
