This is taken from my Grandma's poems of the Island as she has wrote very many, This one is one of my favorites:

My Island

I love my Island
Where tall pines reach the sky,
Where sunshine nudges the shadows
and Lake Huron is nearby.

The blue jay wakes you in the morning
From the oak tree, near the door,
Your lungs are filled with sweet pine air
and who could ask for more.

Where the tall pines are the tallest,
Your worries are the smallest,
Where the birch woods are the deepest
and the flowers smell the sweetest.

Where the moon makes golden paths,
On sparkling water, with it's light.
Where you can sleep so peacefully
on a cool summer's night.

Where the Island night sky is full of stars
And by day is so very blue.
This is where you will find me
And many friends to welcome you.

Ila Kimball Calkins

Just a suggestion for now....til you get that paragraph you want.

Thanks! It's there.

I'd still like to have some sort of factual opening paragraph describing the island if anyone's up to the task.

I found pictures of the sign on Bunker Clark's site http://people.ku.edu/~bclark/boisblanc.html at the bottom of the page. I think I'll combine the two sides to make a nice opening paragraph.

After reading the signs, does anybody else have anything to add? Let me know.

From 'A Short History of Bois Blanc Island' also at Bunker's site.....

Given all this information, those who have never been on the Island may still wonder "So, what’s the attraction? No golf course, no fancy restaurants, bugs, dust!" For those of us who love Bois Blanc, E. B. Webb said it all pretty well in one of his promotional brochures way back in 1903. For us, Bois Blanc is:

The place to go for pleasure, for comfort, for health. Worries are lost sight of here, buoyancy takes the place of weariness, the old lassitude and languor is exchanged for ruddy health; life takes unto itself a deeper, larger, sweeter meaning than ever before.

.... in a nutshell, hey?
