Hi
Is there anywhere I can get a map of the island and surrounding areas that would show hiking trails and the terrain? Is it hilly there or somewhat flat?

Thanks--you people have been so friendly.

Ginny

Sorry, but maps are scarce, and most are incorrect. It is rocky, hilly, tree covered, sandy and swampy. There are no amenities for hikers, bikers etc. But we are friendly. Except if you hike or bike during hunting season and then people get cranky if you are walking through the woods. It is rustic and we love it that way.

The USGS topo maps would be a reasonably detailed map for you though they haven't been updated in years. The USGS McRae Bay Quad, USGS Cheboygan Quad, and USGS Round Island Quad covers most of the island and can be viewed online at topozone.com and can be purchased online at many locations.

This link will put you on the island at topozone.com.

Hope this helps.

Wow! What a map. I think it is great, since even the USGS shows the road ends at our house on it. This is the map the DEQ guy had! Thanks.

Great map-- Thanks

I am still looking for a cabin to stay in. Seems Glen and Judy have rented the A Frame for the July 24-31st time period. I am quite disappointed.--

You can get a map from the Michigan DNR website www.michigan.gov/dnr
Click on hunting, down at the bottom/middle it shows contact information (State Game Areas) Look under B.

Good luck,
Jim

Gin, You can also find a good paper detailed map at www.delorme.com. They have a good michigan state map with boblo island included. Click on paper maps and you can buy any state detailed map book for about 20$. I have used mine many of times and it is great! I never go into the backwoods without it. Idea Regards, Kevin

RenoGin,

If nothing else opens up for your summer stay on BBI consider Insel Haus, our Bed & Breakfast/Retreat Center. We can accommodate twenty guests. And WE ARE OPEN YEAR ROUND! How about snowshoeing or cross country sking on Bois Blanc? Winter on the island is fantastic. You can fly in from Cheboygan or St. Ignace. We'll pick you up at the airport. Check out our web site inselhausbandb.com

Good luck!
