This site invites new-comers to say hello and introduce themselves, so here I am.

My grandparents brought my father and his two sisters to the Island when they were very small children. For several years they camped in tents until my grandfather and father built our cottage. This was before World War One. In the 1940s and 1950s we spent several vacations on the Island, but neither my brother nor I have been to the Island for more than 45 years. Both of us hope to re-visit in the next couple of years, but we are both a bit to far away right now. I live in Japan and my brother, Alan, lives in Germany.

I stumbled on this site quite by accident the other day. Since signing on, I have had an e-mail exchange with Bunker Clark whose family cottage was next to ours. Dad sold our cottage (which my grandparents called "Tee Pee Dee"--as in "D" for Dunning) back in the early 1960s and Bunker told me a family named Schoenberg owns it now.

Though I haven't been to Bois Blanc in almost a half-century, it remains a very vivid memory. I was amazed to find so many names I remembered in reading back issues of the Tatler.

Hope to see you on the Island before too long!

Bruce Dunning

Hi Bruce I can remember people in the house in the pines but I don't remember you but welcome My father moved to the island in 1923 and lived there the rest of his life I lived there from well I was born in 1953 and I moved to Cheboygan in 1992 but I still think the island as my home. I started Bois Blanc Ferry in 1975 and sold it in 1988 wouldn't trade those days for anything.

Bruce,
Great to here from you. I'm Tony Babcock, my dad is Victor Babcock. My wife's Ant and Uncle owen the cabin now. My best freinds when I was groing up on the island rented the place for maybe 8 years or so. I spent a lot of time there then and now spend time with the family there. The house that was just east of the the cabin was my Ant and Uncle's. Well have a nice day in Japan, hope to see you soon.

Tony
