If there's anyone out there that has any old (adult size) sweat shirts that they are planning on throwing away, would you mind throwing them at me. I have a project I want to work on and need old sweat shirts to do it with.

As a matter of fact...

I was just reviewing my "pile" of well worn sweatshirts thinking time for the rag bag. 4-5 maybe. All colors. Some have paint spots on the front. Collars and cuffs are shot.

If you can use them, I will bring them up and drop them off next week.

Terry

Thanks for the sweatshirts. I got them at work yesterday. Even tho the fronts were a bit messed up, I salvaged much of the fabric. They were very much appreciated.

Actually, with the old sweatshirts, I'm making a braided rug. The kind that you braid as you go. There's nothing to sew, so therefore, there's no thread that wears out in time that you have to replace by sewing it back up. They last forever without repairs.

I was thinking that maybe it was quilt. A rug is perfect. Neat! How big do you plan on it to be? Would love to see a pic of it when you are done.

WOW .. a braided rug Exclamation ... oh I know many including my self that would love to have one ..

When we were going though Twinks stuff she had in her storage shed we found a beautiful braided rug ..... John-John was the one that got it and it looks so nice in his home !!

The only way I would get one ..if make it myself and I do not see me doing that any time soon .. I bet it is not as hard to make as it seems ???

Good for you clover !! I just have never got into sewing all though Jolinda and I made a quilt for Brandon ...

I always felt like I should have made each Grandchild a quilt ..but I did other things for them ... I have 10 grandchildren now ...thats a bunch ... there seems like theres a birthday coming up all the time ..
we had a party for my little one that I am helping Todd raise ... He just turned 4 ..this weekend ..
Well let us know or put a picture on here when it is done !!

Yes, I'll post a pic when it's done. I'm not sure how big it will be. I am using 16 sweatshirts and however big it gets with those, is it. I can say that it won't be like one of those 5 x 8 ovals you can buy at Walmart. I don't have enough shirts for that size. It's very easy to make but gets heavier and heavier and harder to work on your lap. Actually the hardest part is finding all the fabric you want to make it out of. But they're always pretty when they're done.

No they are not the same as Peggy Gibbons'. They look the same, but not made the same. She had to sew her braids together into one large oval, and I braid mine together as I go, there's no sewing involved.

It is 54" x 33". They all very in size depending on how much material I have to work with at the time. Thanks for the compliment!! They are pretty heavy so they don't slip on the floor too easy.

That IS cool! I could see my sweatshirt in there 3-4 rows down? Laughing

You must have some technique to braid the braided rows together? Or something like that (if not stitched together)

Always the problem with braided rugs if you use them, the stitching breaks unless really stout thread is used.

Just to let you know, I have finished a smaller rug that is made from camoflage fabric, thanks to a nice gal that gave me a bunch of it. I am in the process of now making one that is mostly baby colors......pink, blue and white. I think it will be my favorite. It's also from fabric that this same nice gal gave to me.

Thank you & that's ok Squeaky. The walls are knotty pine T&G and the floor that you saw in the rug pic (upper floor) are also knotty pine 2 x 6 T&G, the doors are 6 panel knotty pine.
