This is the first 2009 Kayakalakeaday notice. This year, I will start kayaking the inland lakes starting Thursday, April 30 and the first weekend in May, 1,2, and 3. Here are my photo links of the first two trips. Pictures are ok but experiencing the water, wind, weather, and views is the real deal.

I changed the dates to the last day in April and the first Weekend in May. Thursday, April 30, Friday, May 1, Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3. That one week delay could provide slightly better weather and give the lakes time to THAW. Last year, it was questionalble if the ice would be gone.

April 30, May 1, 2, 3. Put it in your calendar!

Sounds like something I would love to join in on. I hope to be searching for new place for mom and dad at that time so kayaking might be out. I will have to kayak them at another time and hope to see some "2009" new pics after.

I know a place you can stay AW. You probably wouldn't like it. I hear the pillows are really huge.

Join the BAILOUT!! Kayakalakeaday is the perfect place to stimulate your "cents es". Cool air, clear waters, and quiet escapes await all who dare to paddle. I usually use a big sponge to bailout my kayak...and no, the sponge is not a congressman.

I'm going to have hats/Ts made. If you are into the K3 (Kayakalakeaday 3) let me know and I'll have a hat of T made for ya. I have no clue how I'll handle this. I will not make a nikkle on it. And I promise, I'll have Americans make 'em and make 'em out of American goods...maybe.

Dates: April 30, May 1, 2, and 3, Thurs, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Right now, there is no schedule of events. Check with later posts.

The art work for the Kayakalakeaday is finished. The T shirt will be cool. I can tell you the colors: Dark Green T with white art work. Want one? Like Washington DC, gotta meet the regulations.

Each Kayakalakeadayer, must kayak at least 50% of the lakes in order to get a "Free T.", my treat.

Here's the order of kayaking events: Deer Lake-Thurs., April 30, 12:00 noon push off, IF the road is passable.

Lake Thompson, Friday, May 1, 10 am push off.

Twin Lakes, Saturday, May 2, 10 am push off. This is the biggest lake. To reach the West end is an all day event for casual but steady paddling. BYO lunch and drinks.

Lake Mary, Sunday, May 3, 10 am push off.

If there are any islanders that want to get a jump on the rental season, please post your property for rent here. Ive given Insel Haus a heads up.

This is an opportunity to see some of the most pristine, unchanged, inland lake shorelines left in Michigan.

Cold as hell here, too. Glad I'm not in Minnisota.

Is it spring yet?

I still can't post pictures in the album. So, if you want to see the FREE T-shirt that will be the crowning of Kayaking at least two of the four large lakes, go to this site and check it out.

http://picasaweb.google.com/cabinfool/KayakalakeadayTShirt32709?authkey=Gv1sRgCN6m2t6C5IGArAE#

Here's the order of kayaking events: Deer Lake-Thurs., April 30, 12:00 noon push off, IF the road is passable.

Twin Lakes, Saturday, May 2, 10 am push off. This is the biggest lake. To reach the West end is an all day event for casual but steady paddling. BYO lunch and drinks.

Lake Mary, Sunday, May 3, 10 am push off.

Any suggestions? PM me or post it in this thread.

In light of the recent pirate boat attacks, it is recommended that we kayak in groups of at least two boats. Light arms, such as fishing poles or an extra paddle should be sufficient to ward off any attackers. I suggest a small, floating "Rapala" as a projectile. But here's a tip: It is a lot easier unhooking pirates if the front treble hook is removed.

Keep your eyes and ears open.

JEE get with it.

The insurgents are running rampant and lurking among the cedars. They are in camo so you won't see them until it's too late.

If you caught any pirates on a rapala, at least you could recycle them as bait.

A Flare gun would be my choice. Signal for help and set them ablaze all at once. But only YOU can prevent forest fires... So wait until they attempt to board your Kayak.
