John, I wanted you to know that the road is passable to Deer Lake. The ice is gone and it is waiting for you. I went there looking for the elusive blood root that is one of the first that blooms in the spring. I was too early and will need to return. The pirates remained hidden in the cedars while I was there yesterday.

I spent 4-20 to 4-23 enjoying the island. All the lakes are ready. I drove my granny van to them all. I think the windstar was the first passenger car to three of the lakes. Check out the lakes here and the road to Deer Lake.

The plan for Thursday, April 30, is to get on the 9:30 am boat out of Cheboygan. Hit the rock at 10:30 am. I planned a 12:00 Deer Lake departure but it may take time to get cabins in order. Lets push the time back to 2:00 pm. I'll get there early and have a few cocktails (cheap beer).

Right now, there are four participants that I know of. Perhaps six. Come out and enjoy the rare beauty of a small remote wild lake when the water is at its highest level.

Mike White, are you Kayaking/canoeing with us?

3putt, my canoe is ready for you and P. Ive got paddles and with your electric motor, you will be ready to cruise. The electric motor might be tough to use in the shallow water, however.

Conis, bring your jet ski. If you have the Kah-hunies for that ice water, enjoy.

Uncle Steve, get a kayak/canoe and join us. It would expand your mind.

I've prepositioned a little canoe. I may make it, but I hear that moisture may be in the air.

I'm, tentative about this because the last time I used this canoe, it rolled over in the strait between BBI & Round Isle in April about 12 years ago.

I also have a 12' econo Kayak in my shed, welcome to it. Has paddle and Life preserver cushions inside. Eric G asked me about using it so he would get first dibs if he is still in. DZ has a key to my camp.

Wished I could make it.

Kayakalakeaday is history! A new record of four participants took part. Thats up from three in '08! It's getting crowded out there. We were the only humans on the lakes...again. No bugs, no spiders in the reeds, cool air and high water make this event a treat. Here are the links to the four lake tours.

The natural, unchanged shorelines are national treasures!! The size and scope of these areas is perhaps unmatched in Michigan. All seasonal or permanent residents on BBI should view these wild shores at least once. They are special.

Well we can still make it that way, if that's what you want. HEHEHEH Wasn't my mom a beautiful child when she was little. She almost looks like Todd in this pic.
