I think it's appropriate to share some information with you concerning my very good friend, Jeff Godbold.

Many years ago,I wrote Jeff's bbi-realestate.com page and have come to BBI for some 20+ years.
Some of you know me as the person with the hovercraft on the North Shore, some of you don't know me at all, and we do need to fix that!

Most of you know Jeff from Hawks Landing and his other ventures
on Bois Blanc Island!
I am copying a letter I have from Sheila that is a couple of days old.

Hi everyone,

I wish to thank each and everyone of you who has emailed back and sent cards to Jeff.

Your kindness is overwelming and very much needed and appreciated at this time.

We cannot thank you enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff was admitted yesterday (6/9/09) for his second round of Biological chemotherapy, he should get out on Sunday {6/14/09) sometime. After this round he will have more scans/mri's to see if these therapies have reduced the size of his tumors. Lets hope and pray that it has!

If it has, they will discuss what he needs to do next, if it hasn't he will need up to 4 more rounds of this stuff over the next several months. But if he needs more treatments, thats what we will do!

Ashlee's last day of school is today-that god! It has been a long hard year for her. She has been ready for school to be over for some time now! She has made the honor roll every quarter this year and was named to the National Junior Honor Society and was in that club this year. We are very proud of her. I don't know how she manages to stay on the honor roll with the schedule she needs to keep with taekwondo, but I cannot complain one bit. She has exceeded all my expectations! I know I am a bragging parent, but I truly could not have asked for a better child! And she misses the island and all of you terribly!

I will keep you posted.

thank you for listening!

Sincerely,

Sheila

I did get down to Ft Myers last weekend to see Jeff, Sheila and Ashlee before his 2nd round of treatment. Jeff and familyl are doing amazingly well. If you don't know, chemo can knock the living **** out of you!

We all have only so much time,
please treasure yours,
if you would like to send Jeff a card, please send to:

Jeff Godbold and Family
7561 Laurel Valley Rd.
Fort Myers, Fl. 33912

Please pray for Jeff and the Godbold family!
if your not into prayer, just think good thoughts ok?

I have talked with Sheila and have this to share,
There is a bit more from me at the end of Sheila's note:

Hi everyone,

We hope you all had a happy and safe 4th of July!

We were at AAU Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, FL from 6/29 thru 7/3 with our team competing in tae kwon do.

Out of the 8 athletes competing in sparring, we brought home 6 medals! 5 bronze and 1 gold, the gold was our 9 year old blue belt he won 1-0 in sudden death over time after 4 fights!

Ashlee brought home a bronze in sparring, we are very proud of her! She did a fantastic job! I don't know how she trained and competed with all that is going on in our lives right now!?!?!?!?!

Of the 4 athletes who competed in forms, we brought home 1 bronze medal.

We brought home 7 medals for 12 events!

Not too shabby!

July 6th we arrived back at Moffit for Jeff's 3rd round of bio-chemo.

After the 1st 2 rounds there was some shrinkage in the large tumors, but the small tumors remained the same. So they took an x-ray and after this round they will take a second x-ray, if there is no significant improvement, then we will stop the bio chemo and move to another drug. There will be two new ones available sometime after this treatment. So we wait and see..............................

While we were at the competition, we learned that my cousin, Rick Scheets, had a heart attack and was placed in the hospital. apparently it was his 2nd one, he has some heart damage and needs 3 stints/shunts (whatever you call them) put in. He is doing fine and was told to take it easy and he cannot work for 2 months-YUK! We wish him and his family the very best!

Jeff's mom came back down on Saturday, July 4th to stay until we don't need her anymore. She works in the auto industry and is on indefinite layoff, bummer! She has been a big help, just knowing that she can take care of the house and Ashlee is a huge relief to us. We found her a one way ticket out of flint for $69.00, it came to $91 with all the taxes, I couldn't believe it!

July 4th we laid low, stayed home, watched t.v. and fireworks, set off our own fireworks( those left over from when Ryan, Jodi and the boys were down last new years time). Ashlee cooked us dinner-it was great!

She has been experimenting in the kitchen alot and seems to enjoy cooking! She is trying to learn the recipes that I cook and is willing to try new ones that sound good to her. Very fun stuff!

My Mom and Dad seem to be doing good. Mom is hanging in there and Dad seems to be a little better. He needs to keep busy with little projects, but................

I want to thank all of you for your cards and emails, they mean so much to us! I just wish I had more time to keep in touch with each and every one of you!

Please keep us posted in your lives, we love to hear from you!

Take care,

Sheila

I talked to Sheila tonight,
Jeff has been through 3 treatments of Chemo, that while somewhat effective have not produced the results hoped for.
After his third round, another tumor close to Jeff's spine was found
and it could have caused paralysis if it got any bigger.
Jeff is now ~ 12 days into a 20 day radiation treatment to try to shrink that tumor.

After that it is either a return to Chemo or more likely an undetermined as of yet experimental treatment.

Needless to say this has been difficult on Jeff, Sheila and Ashlee,
Please keep all of them in your prayers.

Mike

I have a further update on Jeff, I wish it was better news, please keep Jeff, and his family in your prayers.

Hi everyone,

Some of you may and may not have heard, sorry if this is a repeat.

I had to take Jeff to the hospital yesterday. He was losing function of his arms and legs. They did an MRI and discovered that his has a new tumor on his spine in his neck area. The tumor is pressing on his spinal cord causing all the issues. They cannot do surgery due to the location, so they are treating it with radiation therapy. Lets hope it works!

They put him in the ICU unit at Healthpark, he can't have flowers and visitors are limited.

JUst keep him in your thoughts and prayers, please!

I will keep you posted as I can.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Sheila

Hi everyone,

I would like to thank all of you for your prayers, cards, emails, etc. We cannot thank you enough!

We brought Jeff home on Wednesday, August 26th. We had a frustrating 24 hours, but I think we have everything figured out.
He is in a hospital bed in the "family" room by the pool. so he can see the big tv.
WE have him comfortable and thats all that matters.

He seems to be content and more relaxed.

His last radiation treatment is today.

Ashlee started school on Monday, likes all her teachers so far and seems to be more relaxed with this school year.

I am doing fine, sleeping better now that jeff is home, its easier on me.

Talk to you soon!

Love,

Sheila

I spoke with Sheila this morning, it has been a very difficult last couple of days. This movement is best for all concerned now. She sent a message that I have copied below. Please say a prayer for the Godbold extended family.

Just wanted everyone to know that after 3 bad days at home, we have to move Jeff back to the hospice house.

They will be moving him today.

Please no visitors unless you have been contacted to do so, sorry for the inconvenience.

I will keep you posted as best as possible.

thank you all for your continued prayers, letters, texts and phone calls.

Very sincerely yours,

Sheila

I received an email from Sheila's Mother this morning. Sheila made sure Jeff had his last rites yesterday. She said yesterday his breathing was getting worse. The family certainly needs all the prayers for them to get through all of this. I know everyone has been so good at sending cards, etc..

Very sad news - Jeff (and Sheila) helped immensely getting the house on Snow Beach, and Jeff did a great job re-siding it. He's going to be missed, and my thoughts and prayers go out to Sheila, Ashlee and family.

The words below are from Stevo an old friend (and now deceased...), I find them very helpful.

Attitude is everything. Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly.......
Leave the rest to God
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass..
It's about learning to dance in the rain....

To Sheila, and Ashlee,
My name is Pauline.
Jeff spent many hours with me and my three children Tom, Doug, and Gina Linn. He was like a son to me, also a brother To my children.
He was a good boy and a wonderful young man. I was so very proud of him. We will all miss him very much.
We were so happy when he married Sheila, and had Ashlee. He was so happy.
He touched our hearts, and I'm sure he touched many other hearts.
We are praying for Sheila, Ashlee, and the family.

I know the time they spent on the island was so enjoyed by them.
I always wanted to visit the island, never was able to.

Thank you to all of you that loved them.

We will love and miss Jeff forever.

Pauline
