For what it's worth, I've sent Sheila 20 copies of a spiral-bound author's edition (signed) of my latest novel, The Maiden of Mackinac, and will be bringing along about 50 or 60 more copies when I go to the Island on June 28.
With money realized from the sale of these, I'll publish through an on-line company late this year or early next, and try to distribute through the region (at least on Mackinac) with the start of the 2004 season. This limited edition amounts to just 100 numbered copies, printed by me in an 8-by-11 format on a high-quality laserprinter.
The novel -- which deals with a writer's research into a vague legend about a 700-year-old Ojibwe maiden purported to be living on Mackinac -- was begun by me in December 2001. I was going to have it ready, I thought, to publish for general distribution this season, but I've spent months longer on it than anticipated. So these 100 laserprinted copies will be it, for now. Check with Sheila for availability.
I hope to see some of you on the Island. I'll be staying with my family at White Rose -- a two-story white cottage across the road from the vacant site of the old Pines Hotel. Drop by. I'll be there June 28-July 12. |
