I have been looking for a good quality map of the island on the internet but i've had no luck finding one. I've scanned and blown up the map that comes with the Plaunt ferry schedule. Does anybody know where i can get a good copy of a map?

There aren't too many good maps of Bois Blanc Island. That's why my husband made his own full color version with a key. He used a 3D CAD system called Catia. He gave a copy to his cousins The Clovers. You can just barely see part of it in the background of the third picture of the listing of The Clover's house, which is for sale, on the bbi-realestate.com website. It's listing #9, if ya wanna take a look Wink

Hmmm...I wonder if he saved the file and could make more copies? If he did, would anyone be interested?

Wow, sorry to get your hopes up, but the file my husband used to make this map is gone. I guess the one Clovers have is now one of a kind!

If he ever decides to do another one, I'll let you know.

Sorry Crying or Very sad

The island is covered by four quadrants on USGS topographic maps; Round Island, McRae Bay, Point Nipigon, and Cheboygan. These are available at any good backpacking/adventure store or online at numerous sites such as www.mapmart.com

Oh yeah, for about 2 bucks Hawk's has a large map of the Island that is OK. It's not their real estate map that they give away.

It went great. Our best one yet! It was the 8th year we've put on the Great Lakes Primitives Summer Gathering. Chris Oberg will have new photos on our site soon but for now you can look at past events at: http://www.msu.edu/~oberg/boisblanc.html Hope you can make it out next year. I posted some photos on the Bois Blanc Album.

I just ordered an aerial photograph of the island from Marge Beaver. Her website is www.photography-plus.com
If you do not see the photo on her general site, email her to send you a picture of it. It is very pretty: it's taken from the West End, but includes the entire island. I can see the airfield, all the inland lakes, even roads! Cheboygan is in the way, way back. The horizon is curved because the angle is so wide. I love it.

I have scanned the BBI Map found on the Plaunt Ferry Schedule. I made it in pure black and white (not grayscale) and its high resolution: 2.24MB JPEG 5488x3728 pixels. Itís pretty nice, it can be printed about the size of a piece of paper and still retain good quality. Drop me a line if you would like a copy of it

The last time I went to Cabela's in Dundee, Mi they had maps for sale, and the island's map was one of them, most of the state land is current. The new computer fish finder - loranz(?) has all of the coordinates for Lake Huron and the shoreline of the island and the harbor. The hiking maps have a coating on them so they last a long time, even when wet! If you want to explore or camp the couple bucks is worth it. I seem to remember seeing them at Jay's in Gaylord too, which is a good gas stop before Cheboygan. They have the main roads marked roads and trails dotted in.

There are two websites which are really helpful.

Mapquest.com which has all the USGS topos which can be printed in any degree of resolution. If you are into GPS, you can run your mouse over these maps and it will display the exact lat/long coords for any point on the map.

Terraserver (microsoft) is better yet. They offer both USGS topos and ariel maps and have the entire island. The ariel maps show much better detail of roads and trails ( but are Black and white) Either can be printed in sizes up to 11x17.

If you get stuck, email me and I can dig up the exact BBI urls from my bookmarks.
