Having never been able to get to my favorite spot in the world anytime but summer, I have the joy of being able to spend Thanksgiving weekend on the Island!
My son and I will be the guests of the Nelsons in the Pines, and get to enjoy BBI during a slower time of the year!

I am really looking forward to this!

thumbs_up! That's cool. We've talked about having Thanksgiving there but haven't had a chance yet. We're headed up tomorrow to drain the pipes, hope we're not too late. We're on the 12:30 ferry Saturday and leaving on the 1:00 Sunday...way too short. Sad

The last time our family was on the Island in 2001, we spent two weeks there during the firearm deer season. We celebrated Thanksgiving, my daughter's birthday and my husband's first ever buck! It was the best vacation ever! It was also the first time I cooked a turkey for my family. We brought a 15 pound bird with us just for the occasion. Usually we'd spend Thanksgiving with my in-laws.

I'll never forget that year. It also snowed overnight and we had a beautiful blanket of snow for opening day.

We wanted to do it again this year, but unfortunately we were unable to come....sooo disappointing. But, we'll look forward to next year and saving every nickle and dime we can to make it happen!

Happy Thanksgiving and Good Luck to any hunters who may use this site!

I've talked to one of the hunters on BBI last night, and there appears to be a lack of antlers seen so far this year,
of course, the rut doesn't seem to be in full swing yet, so perhaps the times will be better yet.

Who knows, perhaps I'll get my dream of being stranded on a snow deluged island with the right woman,
oops wait,
I'd have to bring one of them with,........

then again,......
Gilda??.........................
hehehe

Thanksgiving on the Island is one of our favorite times of the year. We have kept a log. Twelve years ago at Thanksgiving we had a big blowing storm. Then in 1992 or 1993 we had another one the Saturday after Turkey day, and we were thankful for leftovers. I refused to ride the last boat off because of seasickness, but offered my spot to folks with no leftover food to polish off! Last Saturday Mary's Lake was frozen over all day, and according to the pattern in the journal book, it means we should have snow for Thanksgiving. This year we will be there from Saturday before through the Sunday after Thanksgiving day.

We had a phenomenal weekend!

Good times with great people,
I never even unloaded my hovercraft,
it was just a bit too windy and cold.

I did have the joy of my first snow storm while on the Island!
I can't wait for the ice bridge to form.
