I'll try to scan the article and get it posted here for you Troy.. I only managed to get one copy of the paper.. Connie Faye got a copy for herself but will be glad to show it to you when she gets home.. I ended up without any cash when I remembered it and Connie Faye bought mine for me.. Sad Very Happy

Thank you, Lisa.. It tickled me to see my stuff in print.. On to bigger things! Very Happy I've got to get a web page started, hey?

Hi, I saw the article in Sundays paper and was amazed at the number of phone calls I received. The article was very nice and informative about Bob-Lo, but I hope we are not overloaded with new traffic. Growth is nice but I believe it should happen slowly and in such a manner as to maintain the integrity of the Bob-Lo pace. Thanks Bob Coombs

There have been many articles about BBI in the past...and no large influx of people....I wouldn't worry about it....

It would be nice if some civil minded families with young children would move there though.. To support the school, you know? Very Happy

I don't think that the article will overload the island. Troy's big butt in that pic. will probably keep em' away. Wink Congrats Sue on the pics.

Although it tends to be good for local commerce, I hate it when positive articles are written. It was a good one though.

I feel the same way. Some growth is good, overgrowth is scary. Sad I'd hate to see a bunch of people flock to the island.

We'd love to move up to Boblo with our children, but finding a means of supporting us, not to mention insurance, retirement, etc., is the catch. We love all four seasons, and have many good friends in the Island, and I'm open to any and all options anyone has to offer.

I'm quite serious - please reply with any possibilities - thanks!

Ahhh, if we all could win the lotto... Crying or Very sad

If I knew I would be up there.. All the possibilities I have thought up require a lot of up front money.. Or it would only work and pay for a summer visit maybe.. Or support the Island homestead from the mainland and a lot of us already do that and can't even be there to enjoy it! I envy every full timer there.... Very Happy

One problem I have with the article is that Boyz Blank is NOT how it is pronounced. The people that call the island by that name are the same ones that pronounce Mackinac with the "c." The use of Bob-Lo is just because it is easiest to say.

It is French and people always try to say it based upon American phonetics. The direct translation is Woods White and when you Americanize it, it becomes White Woods. I tried to find a French dictionary that shows the phoentics but could't find one.

Ok, I think I figured it out using American phonetics for those of you that may not know.

Bwh Blŏnk

Ya know how people refer to Barbara Walters as Bawbawa WahWah? Well, take that wah sound and put a "B" in front of it. Think of Blanc as though you were saying bonk but put an "l" in there.

The article about BBI was informative but I have to agree with not saying to much about the Island. We like it just the way it is and has been for so many years: Slow, Beautiful, and all of Yours to enjoy. It must be kept safe by all of us. Wink

For what it's worth, Eric, I use the French pronunciation, too. Always have, always will.

I was surprised that the Free Press article said that Boblo was the French pronunciation. As Eric says, that is just a shorthand way to say it. I too like and use the french pronunciation. I think the pronunication of Bois Blanc as "bwah blanc" just sounds better than Boyz Blank or Boblo. In fact, I think the beauty of the island is better reflected by saying bwah blanc. And there is something about using the french pronunciation that ties the island to its history--I like that too. One of the things that has always attracted me to the Straits area is its history--unlike most of Michigan, this area has recorded history from way, way back. I think the bwah blanc pronunciation recognizes the history better.
