The Northern Lights Resort is referred to (and photographed, apparently in an overgrown/dilapidated state) on Hawk's Landing BBI History page. I must admit, this is a part of Island history I know nothing about. I don't find any historical info on it anywhere else. What ever became of the resort? Where was it on the Island, and when?

I vaguely remember, back in the '70s, my Dad saying something about an "old white hotel" on the Island. I wonder if the resort, or its remains, are what he was referring to...

I know all about the Pines Hotel and remember it fondly, but I'm embarrassed to say I never heard anything about this place. Embarassed Can anyone help to fill me in?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan - It was located on the north shore toward the east end - Probably about 1/4 to 1/2 mile west of the half & half camp - If you stop and see Kenny shiroca (spelling?) - I'm sure he could take you to it. There is a house right across the road from the drive that goes back to where it was. I might have some pictures of it yet - If i can find them i'll let you know. I know I had some of a little bath house that used to sit out in front of it.

Thanks Ron! For some reason I did think it was up along the northern east end. It would be great to see more pictures and tour the site someday.

There were postcard pictures of it at one time, I think at the museum. The hotel was a resort for Mary's Lake too. They had boats for the lake, we were told years ago that the baskets on the lake were from the resort's dock, and out in front of our house there is a very large, wide row boat that was sunk, the kind used to row women with day dresses around the turn of the century. It looks like it would seat several people. Anyone else know anything more?

I didn't think about Cindy - I'm sure she could show you where it's at also - I will be up this weekend and will be staying at the Spray Camp which is close to the bar on Rocky Road - look me up if you get around - we might be playing music somewhere around!!
