The church in the pines is Episcopal and the Coast Guard Chapel is non-denominational.

When I lived on the Island the church in the pines was non- denominational ..

Guess it has changed .... I know that all faiths went to the church in the pines ...

I stumbled upon this article earlier today... it seems appropriate to put it here, especially in light of the anniversary this year.

http://www.upepiscopal.org/history2.html

There are a few mentions of Bois Blanc's church, and a history of the northern Episcopal churches in general. It was spurred by Mike White's addition to the Tatler (I'm so glad we have a resident historian around)

The Cheboygan Catholic Church has a service at 11:30 am. You can take Plaunts 10:30 boat and return on the 2:30 boat. The church is three blocks east of the river, just north of Bridge St., nice short walk. After church you will have about an hour and half to get some lunch or shop downtown. It's a nice day trip.

Hey...my relatives built the Pines church. At the same time, the Episcopal boys' school was built....aka...The Octogon.

That is true. It IS still Episcopal though the services are designed to be fairly non-denominational Christian. Mostly Protestant based though Catholics do attend. There is less "Catholic aerobics" and less emphasis on the Virgin Mary (which is typical of Protestant religions). The Episcopal church DOES recognize communion participation by members of other Christian religions though the Catholic church frowns upon their members participating in another religion's communion.

Not much else is different. Episcopalian is often referred to as Catholic light. Same religion, half the guilt.

All are welcome especially at the Pines church.

i believe if i remember right, that the coast guard chapel stops using the chapel after labor day, and meets in various homes of the attenders. if it has changed feel free to correct me, but from my recolection, i think that's what they do.
